The Apprentice has been criticised by Dragons' Den star Peter Jones.

The entrepreneur, who sits on the judging panel of the BBC2 business pitching show, said he liked The Apprentice but was not quite so keen on its method of nurturing business talent.

Referring to winner Lee McQueen lying on his CV, Peter said: "I'm a fan of Sir Alan but the last series was a bit fictional. The idea of recruiting anyone who lied on their CV just isn't credible.

"It's turning into an entertaining Big Brother-type show rather than a programme about business reality."

But he added that he too had made mistakes in the past.

"I've had a lot of things that haven't gone right but I've learned from my mistakes. Failure isn't a word in my vocabulary. I think of it as feedback. There's always a reason that things don't work, which I try to learn from," Peter said.

Series six of Dragons' Den begins on Monday July 21, on BBC2.
