David Tennant to play film Doctor?

Actor David Tennant is apparently keen to play the Time Lord in a film version of Doctor Who.

The Scottish actor is said to have agreed to star in a fifth series of the popular sci-fi drama in 2010 - if the deal includes playing The Doctor in a movie spin-off.

David is currently only signed up to star in four specials next year, plus a Christmas episode.

But a source on the show told The Sun newspaper: "It looks like the film is going to happen in the next few years.

"Everyone is keen now and the fans are clamouring. Part of David's conundrum is that he wants to do films, so this looks like it would solve both issues."

Both outgoing creator Russell T. Davies and his successor Steven Moffat have pledged their support for a film and the BBC are believed to be in talks about funding.

Two versions of Doctor Who have so far been made for the big screen, starring Peter Cushing in 1965 and Paul McGann in 1996.
