Coronation St Liam's death echoes hit series 24

US thriller series 24 is being used as a template by Coronation Street bosses in the run-up to the week of episodes featuring the murder of Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier).

Although the five visits to Weatherfield won't change time slots, the episodes will be set in one 24-hour period during which the former factory boss's death is revealed.

The storyline begins this Friday when devious businessman Tony (Gray O'Brien) gets wind his fiancee Carla (Alison King) has the hots for her brother-in-law.

The scheming Scot's worst fears are confirmed when he sees them snogging, and over the coming weeks, he plots a terrible revenge.

According to reports in the tabloids, three separate endings to the storyline have been filmed - though presumably none of them end well for Liam, thanks to Rob's decision to quit Coronation Street.

We'll find out what happens when Liam's final moments hit our screens on October 13.

Liam's last 24 hours will be spread over five episodes
