'Dawson' signs for US Footballers' Wives

'Dawson' signs for US Footballers' Wives

Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek is returning to the small screen with a role in the American adaptation of Footballers' Wives.

It is not known which part James - who has been focusing on his film career in recent years - will play.

The American Tanya Tucker (who has been renamed Tanya Austin) will be played by Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless, while Gabrielle Union has been cast as Chardonnay.

Pulp Fiction actor Ving Rhames will play team owner Frank, while Grudge 2 beauty Arielle Kebbel is attached, as is Kiele Sanchez, who is currently appearing in Lost as Nikki.

The US version, which will be written by Ugly Betty scribe Marco Pennette, will be similar to the British one, except it swaps football for American football. The title has also been changed to Football Wives.

The pilot is being shot and it is expected to debut on network ABC this coming autumn.
