Coronation St's Ken tells new love his wife's dead

Ken Barlow is set to tell his latest lover that his wife is dead in Coronation Street.

The Weatherfield lothario, played by Bill Roche, 78, has recently been struggling to deal with his son Peter's drink problem while trying to protect his grandson Simon.

And now it seems the retired schoolteacher may be about to cheat on his wife Deirdre with houseboat dweller Martha, played by ex-Dynasty star Stephanie Beacham, according to The Sun.

A frustrated Ken will meet Martha while walking by the canal and what starts as a like-minded friendship soon becomes a little more as Martha puts the moves on Ken.

And Ken will be quick to reciprocate by telling the barge-dweller that his partner of many years Deirdre, played by Anne Kirkbride, is no longer alive.

Viewers will see Martha invite Ken on board her houseboat for late night coffee but love rat Ken gets an attack of guilt and jumps ship after little more than a snog.

He rushes home to find a furious Deirdre has thrown his dinner in the bin for his late arrival.

An insider told The Sun: "Ken's in for a dilemma over telling Martha the truth. It will explode in his face when the two women find out."
