Martian Simm lands evil Dr Who role

Life On Mars star John Simm is set to play the Time Lord's enemy, The Master, in Doctor Who.

John's Life On Mars co-star Philip Glenister, who plays DCI Gene Hunt in the hit BBC1 cop series, confirmed the news at the Royal Television Society awards.

Philip told The Sun that John, best known for his role as cop Sam Tyler, would make an excellent baddie.

"You should see John first thing in the morning - that's evil enough. He'll be brilliant," he said.

The co-stars are apparently due to part ways at the end of the current series, according to the paper.

While 36-year-old John heads off to join the cast of the hit BBC1 sci-fi drama Doctor Who, Philip is due to star in the Life On Mars follow-on drama Ashes To Ashes, which is set in the 80s.

The news follows the eBay sale of the iconic Ford Cortina from Life On Mars, which was to raise funds for Comic Relief.
