First look at BBC One's autumn drama (VIDEO)

BBC One's autumn schedule includes the next Doctor Who feature, a new adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma and a Second World War interracial love story Small Island.

BBC One controller Jay Hunt said: "I am passionate about ensuring BBC One reaches the widest possible audience. By taking creative risks that surprise and entertain I believe this autumn's line-up of shows will do just that."

Highlights include:

Criminal Justice - Maxine Peake stars a major new five-part thriller which takes an uncompromising and insightful look at the criminal justice system through the experience of one woman.

Doctor Who -David Tennant returns as The Doctor in The Waters Of Mars, the second of four Doctor Who specials being screened on BBC One this year.

Emma - Emma is a fresh and witty serial adaptation of Jane Austen's comic masterpiece by award-winning writer Sandy Welch which stars Romola Garai.

Small Island -Adapted from Andrea Levy's award-winning novel, Small Island is an epic love story about the determined pursuit of dreams in the face of seemingly insurmountable barriers, starring Ruth Wilson.

Framed - Trevor Eve and Eve Myles star in Framed, a brand new family drama about a remote Welsh village, where the villagers discover that the National Gallery in London has been flooded and its priceless paintings are to be stored in the bowels of the old slate mine.
