Doctor Who star fears the Daleks

Desperate Housewives actor Ryan Carnes has revealed that he got freaked out by the Daleks whilst filming an upcoming episode of Doctor Who.

Ryan, best known for playing Justin in C4's hit US drama, is to star in a special two-part adventure, set in 1930s New York, in which the Doctor comes face to face with his infamous nemeses.

In an exclusive interview with whatsontv.co.uk, Ryan revealed: "I saw an episode of Doctor Who featuring the Daleks before I filmed this one and I remember thinking 'they're really not that scary'.

"But as soon as I got on set and one of those things rolled out and started moving its arms around I admit they were pretty scary."

He added: "It's weird that an upside down trash-can with a plunger and an egg-beater for arms can be that scary but the Daleks really are frightening."

Writer Russell T Davies has described the two-parter as featuring 'the most audacious Dalek scheme yet'.

Although he didn't want to give away too much about the episode, Ryan did reveal: "I play a pig. Something goes awry and I end up caught between the human world and the swine world.

The first part of the adventure, Daleks In Manhattan, will be shown on Saturday April 21 at 6.40pm on BBC1, and also stars Holby City favourite Hugh Quarshie and Spooks star Miranda Raison.
