Caroline Quentin in talks to join The Bill

Caroline Quentin is in talks to join the cast of The Bill - in a move by show bosses to try and boost viewing figures.

The Blue Murder star would play Sun Hill's Borough Commander for six weeks.

A show source told The Mirror: "Caroline Quentin has been asked to come in to try and boost the show's popularity.

"Scriptwriters have been told to write especially for her as ITV is keen to improve the ratings."

There are rumours that the show might face the axe as ITV decided whether to recommission the long-running police drama.
