X Factor finalists top charts with charity track

This year's X Factor finalists have gone straight to number one in the charts with the charity single You Are Not Alone.

All proceeds from the track, a cover of the Michael Jackson hit, will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital. It features all 12 of this year's finalists, who performed the song on last weekend's results show.

It is the second year running that the X Factor finalists have hit number one in the charts with a charity record. Last year's finalists topped the charts with a version of Mariah Carey's Hero, in aid of the Help For Heroes cause.

"Following last year's record in aid of Help For Heroes we decided we wanted to do something annually on the show to help good causes," Simon Cowell said.

"I'm very proud of the single and I really hope it raises an enormous amount of money for people who really need our help."

It was a good week in the charts for X Factor performers, as Leona Lewis went straight to number one in the album charts with her second long-player, Echo.

The album knocked the debut self-titled release from last year's runners-up JLS off the top spot.
