Carla not quitting Coronation St

Coronation Street's Alison King has signed a new contract to stay with the soap for another six months.

The star, who plays factory boss Carla Connor on the show, put pen to paper on a new contract after her bosses admitted they didn’t want to lose her character. They have even offered to extend the contract when it comes up for renewal again in October.

Carla became caught up in one of Coronation Street’s most shocking recent storylines when she refused to call an ambulance after Polish worker Kasia fell down the stairs to her death at the factory. On-screen husband Paul then devised a plan to get Carla off the hook so she wouldn’t be prosecuted by police for employing illegal workers.

But while Carla will stay to fight another day, Paul will be killed off after actor Sean Gallagher announced plans to quit the show. “Sean is going in July and we’re already filming his exit scenes,” says Alison, 34. “It’s really shocking and a bit gutting.”

Alison has been a rising star since joining in November
