Gary Lucy tipped for Nirvana play

Dancing On Ice star Gary Lucy is considering playing the late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain in a new play, say reports.

According to The Sun Gary - who is currently in The Bill, and has also starred in Hollyoaks and Footballers Wives - is keen to do something "totally different" after the current series of Dancing On Ice finishes next week.

"Playing Kurt Cobain would be far removed from the glitz and glamour of doing Dancing On Ice," the actor told the paper.

The play, Kurt and Sid, features a fictitious meeting between Cobain and the late Sex Pistols star Sid Vicious, hours before Cobain's suicide in 1994.

It was first staged last year with TV presenter Danny Dyer and actor Shaun Evans, who appears in Sky One's The Take.

"Gary wants a new challenge and this would certainly be that," a friend said.

The star will compete on Sunday against Danniella Westbrook, Hayley Tamaddon and Kieron Richardson for a place in next weekend's Dancing On Ice final.

Gary is second favourite to win the series according to bookmakers Paddy Power although he is a distant second behind Hayley. The Emmerdale star is 1-6 favourite to take the title while Gary is 8-1.

Kieron is the favourite to get the boot on Sunday's semi-final.
