Ashley Jensen has said she would consider doing more Ugly Betty, even maybe a big-screen version of the hit US series.

The actress, who’s currently starring in Sky1 comedy crime drama Agatha Raisin, played fashion designer Christina McKinney in the first three series of Ugly Betty.

Recalling the time she landed the part of Christina, Ashley said: “I was actually over there on holiday, ended up going to see agents, then one thing led to another and all of a sudden I was signed up for Ugly Betty for seven years!”

On whether she’d consider doing a long-running US series again, Ashley said: “I would really have to think about it because I’ve got a small boy now, who’s in school and I think that’s ultimately where my priority lies. But I would maybe do an Ugly Betty again because I think my character nipped in and out of it, so I could go and do a little bit and then come back. Or an Ugly Betty film!”

In terms of other future projects, Ashley said she’d loved to work with her Extras co-star Ricky Gervais again.

“I think he’s just brilliant,” said Ashley, who played nice-but-dim Maggie Jacobs in the show. “We’ve kept in touch since Extras and whenever we get together we end up just giggling and laughing, so I would yeah.”

She added: “I always regress to Maggie when I’m with Ricky. My husband is convinced he’s living with Maggie because he’ll be like: ‘I’m having a Maggie conversation’.”

She’d also jump at the chance to do further series of Agatha Raisin, in which she plays a PR wiz-turned-amateur sleuth fighting crime in the Cotswolds.

“It’s such a joy to do – I know that everybody had such a wonderful time doing it and I hope that the fun that we had translates onto screen,” said Ashley. “It just feels like a good strong positive energy. How can you say that about a programme that’s about murder?”

Agatha Raisin continues Tuesdays at 9pm on Sky1.
