Alan Titchmarsh is to get his hands dirty again after signing up for a new BBC gardening show.
The former Gardeners’ World host – whose ITV chat show moves to a teatime slot this year – will be demonstrating how to recreate some of Britain’s showpiece gardens.
Alan – also a Radio 2 presenter – will be hosting Alan’s Garden Secrets, taking in ornamental spots, some of them hidden from public view, and examining the impact of master gardeners.
He will show how the same effects can be created at home, to suit all budgets.
Titchmarsh – Gardeners’ World host from 1996 to 2002 – said: “I’m delighted to be returning to BBC2 for what promises to be a really special new series.
“Not only will I be able to share some of my favourite gardens from across the country but I’ll be getting my hands dirty passing on some hints and tips to viewers so they can create some of the same magic in their own gardens.”
Another former Gardeners’ World host, Monty Don, is also making a returning to BBC gardening shows for a series in which he tours the pick of Italy’s most beautiful locations.
Don, who is president of the Soil Association, quit after five years as Gardeners’ World presenter in 2008 when he suffered a minor stroke.
For his new four-part BBC2 series, Monty Don’s Italian Gardens, he will journey from the south of the country to the north.
