The BBC has revealed it’s dropped BBC1 district nurse drama Frankie after just one series.

Frankie, which starred Torchwood actress Eve Myles, received a mixed critical reception and debuted with modest viewing figures of 4.6 million for an expensive BBC drama.

A BBC spokesperson told TV Times: “Whilst we are proud of Frankie and very grateful to Lucy Gannon and the cast and team involved, we sometimes have to make hard choices in order to make room for new shows.”

Writer Lucy Gannon had previously tweeted: “Sad news. No second series. Rising figures, v high appreciation index, good itunes: still not enough… Sorry all”.

Yesterday, ITV announced it had axed Love and Marriage, which starred Alison Steadman.
