TV Times tops picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Thursday 25th January

Death in Paradise, 9.00pm, BBC1

When American faith healer Steadman King (guest Steve Touissant) comes to the island, the aim is to miraculously cure the locals of their ailments. But instead, one of the congregation takes a sip of holy water and drops down dead. Talk about bad publicity for his mission! Ardal O’Hanlon’s Jack has very little sympathy, dismissing Steadman as a charlatan, but he’s struggling to pin the murder on him. Perhaps the team’s new recruit might be able to lend a hand (or should we say a paw?) – as JP (Tobi Bakare) is entrusted with a police dog. Unfortunately, Pico turns out to be the laziest officer Saint Marie has ever seen – he’s even more workshy than Dwayne! Rating: *****

Britannia, 9.00pm, Sky Atlantic

Britannia

Aulus (David Morrissey) is one savvy Roman general. Rather than embarking upon a murderous rampage, his plan to divide and conquer involves teaming up with either one of the rival tribes in an effort to quash the other. But will he choose the Cantii or Regni? The decision is taken out of his hands when King of the Cantii, Pellenor (Ian McDiarmid), rejects his attempts to parlay, but his daughter Kerra (Kelly Reilly) secretly tries to strike her own deal. Rating: ****

The Hairy Bikers’ Mediterranean Adventure, 8.00pm, BBC2

The cheerful chefs head to Marseille as they continue eating, cooking and singing their way across the Med. First stop, a bustling market to stock up on ingredients for a fish stew. In Camargue they visit a bull ranch where owner Claire prepares a rich beef dish called a toro. Other stops include a visit to a vinegar maker in Catalan country. Finally, they head to Céret, famous for its cherries, where Dave bakes while channelling the voice of Mary Berry… Rating: ****
