Cinema new releases for Friday 10th November - our film expert Jason Best reviews the best movies coming out...

Paddington 2 – starring Ben Whishaw and Hugh Bonneville

The marmalade-loving bear from darkest Peru is back for his second big-screen adventure and we couldn’t be more excited. Nimbly updated for today but still faithful to the spirit of Michael Bond’s much-loved books, the first film was a joy. And with old hands Ben Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins joined by a deliciously hammy Hugh Grant, the sequel is every bit as warm, witty and generous-hearted as before. Rating: ****

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women – starring Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote

We fell for Wonder Woman in a big way after Gal Gadot gave the superhero genre a zesty girl-power boost for the summer’s blockbuster hit. But who knew the iconic heroine’s origins were quite so bizarre? This eye-opening biopic starring Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote reveals the kinky ménage à trois that lay behind the character’s creation in early-1940s America.  Rating: ****

Only the Brave – Josh Brolin

A suitably gruff and gritty Josh Brolin heads an elite team of Arizona firefighters tackling wildfires with dogged bravado in this stirring real-life disaster movie. The drama is a little hamstrung by its fidelity to actual events, but the men’s rowdy camaraderie comes across vividly and the excellent special effects mean the blazes look terrifyingly real. Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly and Andie MacDowell lend sterling support. Rating: ***
