The Cutting It and WIA actor will play police officer DCI Elizabeth Bancroft who is hiding dark secrets for new ITV Encore series Bancroft
Broadchurch actress Sarah Parish has been cast in the lead role in new thriller detective series Bancroft.
The 48-year-old, currently starring as feisty Cath Atwood in ITV’s Broadchurch, will play respected, but secretly tortured, police officer DCI Elizabeth Bancroft, a woman with dark secrets.
ITV said, “Ruthless and courageous, Bancroft is a brilliant copper who has given her life to the police force. She’s trusted and adored by her colleagues and promotion to Detective Chief Superintendent looks assured”. However the methods Bancroft uses, during an operation to bring down a vicious gang, prove somewhat dubious.
Game Of Thrones actress Faye Marsay will star as ambitious fast-tracked recruit DS Katherine Stevens in the four-part series.
When DS Stevens is assigned to a cold case, she unwittingly disturbs the ghosts from the past and what she unearths shakes DCI Bancroft to her core.
Meanwhile Linus Roache (Vikings, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), son of Corrie star Bill Roache, plays a man who was widowed when his wife was brutally murdered in their home 27 years earlier, an unsolved crime DCI Bancroft appears to know much more about than she is letting on.
Bancroft has been created by Mr Selfridge writer Kate Brooke and the series will be produced by former Doctor Who producer Phil Collinson.
