Christine Bleakley will not return to The One Show when the programme comes back from its break next week, the BBC has said.

The presenter is following in the footsteps of her former co-host Adrian Chiles by defecting to ITV.

The BBC One magazine show returns on July 12 and will be hosted by guest presenters.

Adrian’s replacement Jason Manford will begin presenting duties next month and will be joined by a yet-to-be-revealed “brand new female presenter”.

In a statement, the BBC thanked Christine and said it would like to “wish her well”.

Screen tests are taking place over the next couple of weeks for those hoping to fill her shoes and it is understood there has been plenty of interest in the sofa job, with top names involved.

Christine had been due to continue presenting duties until September but has instead made the clean break by mutual agreement.

Adrian and Christine will be reunited when GMTV bosses relaunch the ITV1 morning show.

The programme is soon to undergo a major revamp and rebrand which will see the GMTV name disappear.

Christine has recently been photographed looking carefree and soaking up the sun with her boyfriend, football star Frank Lampard.

She has said of her move: “I have had the most wonderful three years at the BBC and The One Show.

“It has consumed my life in that time and I would not have had it any other way; I have made great friends and met some incredible people.”
