Dancing on Ice has been a success after returning from four year break
Dancing on Ice will be back for a new series in 2019 after proving a ratings hit.
With audiences peaking at 8.3 million, it comes as no surprise that ITV has re-commissioned the show for another series. Dancing on Ice originally warmed up our winter evenings for nine series before it was axed in 2014.
Bringing it back was a gamble for ITV, but it’s undoubtedly worked with the broadcaster revamping the judging panel, led by skating legends Torvill and Dean, and reuniting original presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. Viewers have certainly enjoyed the Class of 2018 line-up, which includes Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent.
Broadcast live from a brand new home facilitating two state of the art ice rinks at Bovingdon Airfield, the series has so far averaged 7.8 million viewers.
Siobhan Greene, Head of Entertainment Commissioning, ITV, said “The show’s welcome back has exceeded our expectations and it’s been fantastic to see the audience at home loving it. The recommission is a no brainer and it’s brilliant for everyone involved to know it’ll be back next year.”
Dancing on Ice continues on Sunday at 6.00.
