No more Dwayne, but Jack will have a rookie new recruit...
Danny John-Jules has left his role as Officer Dawyne Myers in Death in Paradise as filming begins on series eight of the BBC1 detective hit.
The Red Dwarf star will not be seen in the new series, although his departure as ladies’ man Dwayne – until now the only surviving leading character from the start of the show – will be explained on screen.
Danny was part of the original line-up of Death Paradise when it started back in 2011, appearing alongside Ben Miller as DI Richard Poole and Sara Martins as Camille Bordey.
Ardal O’Hanlon will be back in series eight as DI Jack Mooney alongside Josephine Jobert as DS Florence Cassell, Tobi Bakare as Officer JP Hooper, Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson and Elizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey.
Dwayne’s departure will leave a hole in Jack’s team, step forward rookie Officer Ruby Patterson, who just happens to be the niece of Commissioner Patterson!
Shyko Amos (pictured above), who plays Ruby, reveals: “There is nothing quite like Death in Paradise on TV and it hasn’t quite sunk in yet that I’ve joined such a massively popular show.
“It’s give me a butterfly or two but I’m very excited! Officer Ruby Patterson is a bundle of joy!”
Death in Paradise is expected to return on BBC1 in early 2019.
