Celebrity Big Brother host Davina McCall is set to go up against other TV personalities as they audition to be Paul O’Grady’s replacement live on air.

Vernon Kay and Location, Location, Location’s Phil and Kirstie are also going to try out for the job by presenting Paul’s Channel 4 teatime show for a week each.

A source told The Mirror: “We have been inundated. The teatime slot is a real favourite because it means they can be on telly every day but there is less pressure than with a primetime show.

“We plan to have eight to 10 presenters for a week each in spring. Then we’ll decide whether to give the gig to one or carry on with rotating names. It’s a bit like staging live auditions.

“People are desperate to get involved – having a chat show is the Holy Grail for lots of these presenters.”

Popular host Paul left the show because of cost-cutting.

The insider added: “Paul’s departure was amicable – he accepts he is just a victim of financial circumstances.

“Maybe he’ll change his mind and return permanently.”
