First images from BBC1 drama revealed
The BBC has revealed first look pictures (below) of former Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman starring as a mum whose newborn baby is snatched in The Cry.
The BBC1 thriller, which has been adapted from the novel by Helen FitzGerald, sees Joanna (Jenna) and her husband Alistair (Ewen Leslie) thrust into the public glare when their baby is abducted from a small coastal town in Australia.
Billed as “exposing the myths and truths of motherhood”, the story sees the couple’s marriage and lives change forever as they face an unthinkable tragedy.
Filming has now started in Australia and the Beeb revealed a string of new cast announcements for the four-part drama – Jena and Ewen are joined by Stella Gonet (The Crown), Sophie Kennedy Clark (Philomena) and Australian actors Asher Keddie (X Men: Origins), Alex Dimitriades (Seven Types of Ambiguity), Markella Kavenagh (Romper Stomper) and Shareena Clanton (Wentworth).
Elizabeth Kilgarriff, BBC Drama Senior Commissioning Editor, and Gaynor Holmes, BBC Drama Commissioning Executive, said: “We’re very excited to have started filming in Australia and to have such an incredible array of Australian talent joining Jenna and Ewen, topped off with some of Scotland’s most accomplished actors.”
Victoria star Jenna previously said: “I first read Jacquelin Perske’s script on a plane, it felt like walking a tightrope, racing page to page, unsettling, unknowable, uncomfortable, and thrilling.”
The BBC is still to announced when The Cry will be broadcast.
