Gold will screen a “lost” episode of Only Fools and Horses from 1984 in The Story of Only Fools and Horses, which continues on Tuesday evening at 8.00pm.

The special, called Licensed to Drill, sees Del (Sir David Jason) talking to Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and Grandad (Lennard Pearce) at the breakfast table about how he’s bought an oil rig on the cheap!

While Grandad ponders what colour it might be, Rodney asks: “Where is this oil rig?” Del replies: “It’s in a lock up garage in Catford!” Needless to say Rodney looks stunned by this revelation!

The episode, which was Lennard Pearce’s last appearance as Grandad, was created for schools to help them teach pupils about crude oil. David Jason, 77, chuckled watching the episode back in The Story of Only Fools and Horses, especially enjoying the moment Del talks about picking the oil rig up in the morning. “You can tell when you’ve got moments like that, that’s John [the show’s creator, John Sullivan],” said David.

Tuesday’s episode is all about Del’s money-making schemes and “hooky” deals over the years, which of course usually worked out very badly.
