TV presenter Laura Whitmore became the seventh contestant to leave Strictly Come Dancing as she lost to Ore Oduba in the dance off on Sunday night

TV presenter Laura Whitmore is the seventh celebrity to depart the dance floor in Strictly Come Dancing 2016 after losing the dance-off to sports presenter Ore Oduba and his partner Joanne Clifton.

In Saturday’s live show, Laura and partner Giovanni Pernice scored 32 points for their samba, danced to “Bomboleo” by Gipsy Kings, but both Len Goodman and Craig Revel Horwood commented on Giovanni’s dominance in the routine.

“I was surprised you took the big solo moment, Giovanni,” Craig said.

“Laura is a star, she can dance,” Len added. “And I would have liked more Laura and less Giovanni in places.”

And it looks like the viewers agreed with Len as Laura and Giovanni found themselves in the bottom two, along with Ore and Joanne, who danced a salsa to “Turn The Beat Around” by Vicki Sue Robinson.

And after both couples had danced a second time, the judges were unanimous in their vote to save Ore and Joanne.

“One couple danced the best I’ve ever seen them dance and I think was probably their personal best; but for me, the dance of the night and who I would like to save was Ore and Joanne,” said Craig.

“I think both couples danced exceptionally well tonight and it makes it very difficult but I’d like to save the couple that I believe and know performed their best, a finished performance, was Ore and Joanne,” said Darcey Bussell.

Bruno Tonioli said: “First off, let me say this wasn’t a dance off, it was a dance treat. You both danced with such vibrancy, energy and entertainment value, it’s like splitting hairs here. But I have to pick one out of the two that in a way outshone everyone else, and that couple was Ore and Joanne.”

Len said he agreed with his colleagues and that he would have also saved Ore and Joanne.

And Laura was gracious in defeat… “If I’m going to go against anyone then, Ore, I mean… I’m OK.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC1, Saturday, November 12, 6.55pm.
