Corrie's Samia Ghadie reveals that one popular cast member will not survive until the end of the year. But who is it?
Samia, who has played Maria Connor on Coronation Street since 2000, has revealed that a cobbles’ favourite is going to be killed off in heartbreaking scenes set to air soon.
The actress remained tight-lipped over who is going to lose their life, but revealed that filming the scenes left her in floods of tears.
“It’s been great fun filming, but this week I’ve been recording some of THE saddest scenes I’ve ever done in my 17 years at Corrie,” Samia wrote on her blog for OK! magazine.
“When I first read the scripts I was in tears so getting to film them has just sent me off.
“You may need your tissues when they air. And we say a sad goodbye to a well loved member of the cast.”
Although Samia didn’t name the character who is set to leave the street, she didn’t rule out the possibility that it might be Maria herself who is saying goodbye to Weatherfield for good.
The devastating exit is part of a shake-up planned by new Corrie boss Kate Oates. The former Emmerdale producer is set to make her mark on the popular ITV soap with a big-budget stunt that will see lives hanging in the balance.
A source told The Sun: “This is going to be up there with some of the best scenes in Corrie history.
“Characters are going to be crawling through flames to escape, and there’s talk of killing at least one character.”
Before the heartbreak, however, Maria is embroiled in scandal when she beds hunky Aidan. Despite having recently got engaged to Luke, Maria will cheat on her fella when she has a drunken one-night stand with Aidan, played by Shayne Ward.
And that’s just the beginning of the drama, as Maria begins to develop feelings for Aidan…
