The first live show of ITV1’s X Factor pulled in more than half of the total TV audience, easily beating the National Lottery’s In It To Win It.
The X Factor has proved a massive hit once again this year outdoing its competition on Saturday night with nearly 13.5 million viewers tuning in to hear the final 16 contestants’ first live performances.
The massive viewing figures also meant The X Factor claimed more than 50 per cent of the total teleivison audience on Saturday night.
According to the MediaGuardian, the first live show averaged 12.2 million viewers with a peak of 13.5 million and a 51.7 per cent of the audience between 8.15pm and 8.30pm.
The UK public have shown no sign of losing interest in the talent contest, now in its seventh series, with this year’s average viewing of the first live edition up from the 11.1 million last year.
BBC1’s Merlin averaged 5.4 million viewers, and a 21.1 per cent share between 7.40pm and 8.25pm, while the National Lottery: In It To Win It, averaged 4 million and 16 per cent between 8.25pm and 9.20pm.
On ITV1, Harry Hill’s TV Burp returned for the first of an eight-part series with 5.7 million viewers, a 24.2 per cent share, between 7.10pm and 7.40pm.
It lost out to BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing, which saw this year’s contestants take to the dance floor for the second time. Strictly averaged 8.636 million and managed a 40.3 per cent share across nearly two hours between 5.45pm and 7.40pm.
