David Walliams has gathered a glittering array of comedy stars for a full series of his BBC1 sketch show, Walliams & Friend

David Walliams’ one-off Christmas comedy sketch show Walliams & Friend, featuring Joanna Lumley, has been commissioned for a full series by the BBC.

The new six-part series will screen on BBC1 this autumn and will feature Harry Enfield, Meera Syal, Jack Whitehall, Sheridan Smith and Miranda Richardson as David’s ‘friend’ in each episode.

He and the friend will star in a variety of comedy sketches in each episode

Hugh Bonneville will be his friend in a special to screen this Christmas, which will also star Morgana Robinson and Mike Wozniak (Man Down)

David Walliams said: “I am thrilled to be working with some of Britain’s best loved comedians and actors.”

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning, BBC said: “David is a master of the sketch show who has attracted a terrific array of A-list comedy stars to play with each week. The concepts and writing behind it are superbly crafted and the series promises fresh surprises every show.”

The Walliams & Friend one-off co-starring Joanna Lumley drew an audience of six million viewers last Christmas.
