Soccer pundit Ron Atkinson, who lost his job in a race row, is to appear in Celebrity Wife Swap with black athlete Tessa Sanderson, it has been reported.

The 70-year-old sports commentator – whose ITV career ended after he branded a player a ‘lazy, thick n*****’ – will live with the javelin thrower for the Channel 4 show, which airs next month, according to The Sun.

Tessa, 53, will have to live by Ron’s wife Maggie’s rules for the first half of the week, then she is in charge.

Maggie and Tessa’s fiance Densign White will share a house for a week at the same time. The four then meet up at the end to discuss experiences.

A show source said: “Big Ron will have to be on his best behaviour with Tessa. If he puts even so much as a finger out of line she’ll come down on him like a ton of bricks.

“And he will know by now that her fiance Densign White is a former judo champion.”

Ron, 70, has been keen to prove he’s not racist since he made remarks about Chelsea star Marcel Desailly on live TV in 2004, thinking his mic was turned off. He apologised but lost his job.

He later took part in a BBC show called Big Ron: Am I Racist? where he travelled the country working out why he had made the remark.
