Strictly dancer Karen Clifton, who is paired with Will Young in this year's series, has hinted she will leave the show in the near future to start a family with fellow dancer and husband Kevin Clifton.

Strictly dancer Karen Clifton has hinted that this series may be her last, as she and her husband are keen to start a family in the near future.

The star, 34, has been a Strictly Come Dancing regular since 2012 but has said her priority is having children with her husband Kevin Clifton – who is also a dancer on the show.

In an interview with The Sun, Karen, from Venezuela, said: “Kevin and I are hoping to have a family pretty soon so that’ll probably mean I’m going to be out of the show in the near future. But we absolutely love Strictly.

“I want at least two kids and a dog and a big house and a bird. Two kids will keep me busy.”

And Kevin, 33, who’s partnering Louise Redknapp this series, also spoke of the couple’s dreams of starting a family. He said: “Karen talks about having kids quite a bit. We have spoken about starting a family – it’s just fitting it in to the schedule.

“It would be a lovely thing – we’ll create the new generation.”

Despite her successful career as a Latin dance specialist and World Mambo champion, Karen admitted she does not want any of her children to follow in her footsteps and become a dancer – as the profession is too demanding.

Karen, who is partnered with pop star Will Young this year, said: “They’re not going to be dancers; I want them to be a vet and a dentist. Dancing is too hard a career.”

Karen and Kevin married in a star-studded ceremony in Westminster last year with their Strictly co-stars and celebrity contestants, including Susanna Reid and 2014 winner Frankie Bridge, in attendance.

Kevin proposed to Karen in April 2013 during the stage show of Burn The Floor at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre.

Speaking after the proposal, Kevin said: “For the last 15 minutes my legs were like jelly and I kept getting the steps wrong. It was nerve-wracking but an amazing night!”
