Splash! frontman Tom Daley has tipped Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards to triumph in Saturday’s final – and also revealed his own ambitions to further his TV career following the success of the show.

Although the ITV1 programme – which has seen the Olympian teaching celebrities to dive – was a flop with the critics it has been a surprise hit with viewers, pulling in audiences around the 6m mark each week.

And Tom told The Sun that the series has been “amazing”, adding: “This is what I want to do when I finish diving.

“I’d love to do big entertainment shows so Vernon Kay had better watch out!”

Saturday’s show will see Eddie compete against Benidorm star Jake Canuso and TV presenter Linda Barker to be crowned series champion, with Tom adding: “Eddie has been great – I think he is the one to watch tonight.”

The 18-year-old also answered critics of the show, saying he had not been that concerned by the negative reviews.

“There’s always going to be criticism with the first show because it’s getting things going and getting it sorted,” he told the paper.

“Each show has got better and the viewing figures have stayed up. I think it’s kind of changing most of the critics’ opinions now which is great.”

The final kicks off on ITV1 at 7pm on Saturday night.
