TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Friday 15th June…

Dale Winton’s Florida Fly Drive, 10pm, Channel 5

It’s an emotional moment seeing Dale Winton smiling on our screens tonight, after his untimely death in April. The first episode of this travelogue was shown in February, but now the rest of the four-part series is being aired in tribute to the Supermarket Sweep star. This moving episode sees Dale in Miami, taking in Gianni Versace’s opulent villa (now a hotel), Little Havana and Palm Beach’s Billionaires Row, location of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago pad. There’s also a touching moment when Dale talks about death while paying tribute to his late friend, restaurateur Prady Balan. Rating: ****

Cruising with Jane McDonald, 9pm, Channel 5

That Jane McDonald is one plucky lady. The second part of her Antipodean adventure finds her in the New Zealand capital Wellington, where she has a go at quad-biking – 900m above sea level. Then, after a helicopter ride over Auckland, Jane heads for the city’s imposing Sky Tower, where she attempts a heart-stopping ‘SkyJump’, before heading back to Sydney in Australia to climb the iconic Harbour Bridge. Thankfully, in New Zealand, there are also some less high-octane treats for Jane, as she visits the (rather whiffy!) thermal pools of stunning Rotorua and even rubs noses with a traditional Maori tribe, but her attempt to play one of their war instruments is not a roaring success. Stick to singing, Jane! Rating: ****

The Bridge, 9pm, BBC2

As if things weren’t knotty enough, The Bridge rewinds five years at the start of this episode, into the backstory of Tommy, a bit of a toe-rag as a husband and father but a useful snitch for Henrik. How Tommy fits into the present case is an eye-opener, but it doesn’t stop there. Thankfully, there is a light moment or two amid the Nordic gloom – watching the emotionally arctic Saga deal with a baby thrust into her arms is almost laugh-out-loud. Rating: ****
