TV Times tops picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Friday 19th January

Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens, 9.00pm, BBC2

Monty Don travels far from his beloved Longmeadow of Gardener’s World fame for this two-part series that takes him to Spain, Morocco, Iran, India and Turkey. The passionate gardener is in search of the ancient Islamic tradition of the paradise garden. Each oasis Monty visits has water at its heart, provides shade from the punishing heat and is usually planted with fruit trees like orange, fig or pomegranate. He begins in Andalucía, southern Spain, at the Alhambra in Granada, which boasts a series of stunning gardens. All of the locations are beautiful, but the green spaces of Iran are a particular and surprising delight. Rating” ****

Would I Lie to You?, 9.00pm, BBC1

There’s professional pride at stake tonight, as Judge Rinder uses his training to deduce who is lying, and who’s telling the truth – will his legal experience give him the upper hand? Also on the show is Richard Osman – a smart, witty and never pointless guest, particularly when claiming he used to work in a shoe shop for a “Mr Clog”… Rating: *****

Grace and Frankie, Netflix

Co-created by Marta Kauffman, whose CV notably contains Friends, Grace and Frankie also got a mixed reception when it debuted, in 2015, but quickly went on to win over both critics and audiences. As the 13 new episodes of season four land today on Netflix, retired cosmetics boss Grace (Jane Fonda) and hippie art teacher Frankie (Lily Tomlin) are still living in the beach house they started sharing after their husbands ran off together, and still finding things to fall out over. Chief among these, this time around, is Grace’s closeness to her manicurist, Sheree, played by Lisa Kudrow, of Friends fame. Rating: ****
