TV Times tops picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the three best shows on Saturday 30th December

 A Christmas Carl Goes Wrong, 7.10pm, BBC1

If you went crazy for last year’s anarchic and fantastic Peter Pan Goes Wrong, then we’ve got good news – the gang’s back again this year, subjecting Charles Dickens to death by a thousand missed cues and pratfalls. The formula remains the same – a much loved classic is supposedly being given a makeover by a bunch of incompetents, namely the ‘Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’, who probably shouldn’t be allowed out alone. If last year’s show is anything to go by it’s bound to be another winner. And the calibre of guests – Sir Derek Jacobi and Dame Diana Rigg – is highly promising, too. Rating: ****

The Price Is Right, 8.00pm, C4

The Price is Right

Think you know how much a hot tub costs, or a coffee-making machine, or even just a pack of batteries? Get ready to shout at the screen as the classic game show returns for a one-off special with Alan Carr. With amazing prizes up for grabs, including a holiday to Dubai and a shiny new Fiat, Alan asks excited audience members to ‘Come on down!’ and guess the cost of goodies in a series of games. Alan slots in perfectly as the new host. Can we have a whole series, please? Rating: *****

Feud: Bette and Joan, times vary, BBC2

It’s the 1963 Oscars and Joan is fuming that Bette’s been nominated as Best Actress. But, as we’ve learned only too well by now, Joan can ruin everything and she teams up with gossip columnist Hedda Hopper to secretly campaign against Bette by talking up her Oscar rivals. When Bette gets wind of what’s happening, there’s an almighty bust-up! Catherine Zeta-Jones makes another guest appearance as Olivia de Havilland. Rating: *****
