TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Sunday 8th April

The Durrells, 8pm, ITV

It’s a crowded house tonight, as Larry forces Louisa to take in two of his friends – delightful foreign dignitary Prince Jeejeebuoy (Tanmay Dhanania, Indian Summers) and tedious local drunk Captain Creech (James Cosmo). At least it’s an excuse to get the fizz out, and Louisa finds that hosting is much less stressful after a couple of drinks. But what will happen when Spiro comes to pick her up for an interview at Gerry’s potential new school, and she’s already a bit worse for wear? Meanwhile, Leslie is plunged into a moral dilemma as he tries to be friends with Daphne, and the ever impulsive Larry makes the mistake of buying a boat that he doesn’t know how to sail… Rating: ****

The Good Karma Hospital, 9pm, ITV

The Good Karma Hospital

Viewers might come to The Good Karma Hospital for the wonderful scenery, but they stay for the moving storylines – and tonight’s instalment certainly doesn’t disappoint. On the remote tea plantation, Ruby is still reeling from the news that her long-lost uncle is in fact her father, and begins asking some difficult questions. Meanwhile, back in Barco, there’s good news for Dr Ram – but this week’s episode belongs to Mari, who has her hopes of being a mum raised following a chance meeting with an old friend. The nurse has often lurked in the background, but takes the lead in a tale guaranteed to melt the hardest heart. Rating: *****

Ordeal by Innocence, 9pm, BBC1

Ordeal by Innocence

As the splendidly sinister thriller continues, Dr Calgary’s own disturbing past gradually comes to light, but, haunted by the night he met Jack, the fragile scientist’s determination to prove the young man’s innocence is undiminished. Although the Argyll family is equally dogged in their mission to get Calgary out of their lives for good, the pressure is getting to them now as they are forced to face up to the fact that one of them is a killer. Tina and Hester are both at breaking point and Mary is even more jittery than usual while her vile husband, Philip, is having a whale of a time as he delights in winding up everyone in the household. But further danger is not far away… Rating: ****
