TV Times tops picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 16th January

Britain’s Favourite Dogs: Top 100, 7.30pm, ITV

We Brits love our doggies, but which breed is the best? This charming show, presented by Sara Cox and Ben Fogle, talks us through the most popular, and introduces us to wonderful characters, from Michael Ball’s loyal Tibetan terrier Ollie to Gok Wan’s aloof French bulldog Dolly and Gabby Logan’s “stupid” boxer Milo. We also meet irresistible Chinese crested dog Mugly, and hear tales of dogs who have survived against the odds. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll definitely want to buy a dog (or just cuddle the one you have). Our only criticism? This marathon show could have easily been a series – some breeds didn’t get the attention they deserved! Rating: ****

Inside No 9, times vary, BBC2

A word of warning: the first five minutes of this episode won’t make much sense! Monica Dolan and Emilia Fox are the guest stars in this week’s ingenious tale from the brilliant minds of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith and nothing is quite as it seems.

A word of warning: the first five minutes of this episode won’t make much sense! Monica Dolan and Emilia Fox are the guest stars in this week’s ingenious tale from the brilliant minds of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith and nothing is quite as it seems. A removals man arrives at a house, ready to help a lady move home, but she seems nervous, the house doesn’t seem ready and everyone is a little on edge. Plus there’s a a man upstairs who thinks that he’s Andrew Lloyd Webber and a surprise round every corner… We can’t say much more without spoiling the fun, but trust
us – it’s a great half hour! Rating: ****

Silent Witness, 9.00pm, BBC1

This week’s two-parter draws to a typically tense conclusion. Clarissa (Liz Carr) and Max investigate when Hamilton Ashe hospital, which had been treating pregnant Karen before her murder, has its computer database hacked. But when Nikki receives a threatening text, it becomes apparent that someone closer to home is in danger. Rating: ****
