 Doctor Foster, 9.00pm, BBC1

Doctor Foster

Following the shocking events of last week, shifty Simon thinks he has finally got the upper hand over vengeful ex-wife Gemma. Perhaps he shouldn’t count his chickens quite yet, though, as there are still two episodes left of TV’s tautest thriller and those wonderful inventive twists just keep on coming… After weeks of Kate taking a bit of a back seat, this week Jodie Comer seizes the chance to show just what a great actress she is when we get to see things from Kate’s rather interesting and surprisingly vulnerable perspective. Kate takes her place centre stage and starts to become jittery about Simon’s behaviour. Will she realise what kind of man she has married? Rating: *****

Great British Bake Off, 8.00pm, C4

Great British Bake Off episode five

As the series reaches its fifth episode, any worries we had about this lovely baking contest not being the same in its new home have disappeared. Prue, Sandi and Noel have settled in so nicely. It’s the always-delightful Pudding Week and, first up, everyone wants to come top of the class with their steamed school pudding in the signature challenge. Meanwhile timing is key to the technical – and the showstopper round is guaranteed to make your mouth water! Rating: *****

The Yorkshire Vet, 8.00pm, C5

The Yorkshire Vet

In this special episode Peter Wright, Julian Norton and the team at Skeldale Vet Centre are busy helping their clients prepare for the highlight of the Yorkshire farming year – The Great Yorkshire Show. Dairy farmer Martin is hoping to display his best shorthorn cows at the showground in Harrogate, but Butterbur, his prize cow, isn’t feeling her best and it’s a race against time to make sure she is fit. Meanwhile, sheep farmer Ralph is struggling to get his Charolais sheep in tiptop condition. But with the help of a bit of fake tan (really!) and a lot of primping and preening, he just might be in with a chance… Rating: ****
