Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is to appear before an Irish court after he was arrested as he tried to board a plane to England.

The Bend It Like Beckham star is alleged to have been refused permission on to a London-bound flight at Dublin Airport.

The 30-year-old heartthrob was arrested by Gardai and taken to a nearby police station where he was charged with being drunk and in breach of the peace. He was later released on cash bail and is due to appear before Dublin District Court next month.

“A man was arrested at Dublin Airport yesterday and taken to Whitehall Garda Station and is due to appear in court next month on public order charges,” said a Garda spokeswoman.

He was charged under Section 4 and Section 6 of the Public Order Act.

A spokesperson for Dublin Airport said there had been an incident at the airport, with a passenger refused access to a flight and escorted from ‘airside’ back through security to the main airport.

The Daily Mirror reports that he allegedly shouted at an airport worker and said: “I will get on that flight no matter what!”

Jon – who is currently starring as Henry VIII in BBC2’s The Tudors – was in Dublin to promote his new movie August Rush, which opens on Friday.
