Strictly Come Dancing, 7.00pm, BBC1

strictly come dancing

It’s showtime! After weeks of hype, Ruth Langsford, Brian Conley, Debbie McGee and co are slipping into the sequins and taking their first tentative steps onto the Strictly dancefloor. Tonight, the class of 2017 will be matched up with their pro partners before performing a hotly anticipated group dance. Of course, we can’t wait to meet new head judge Shirley Ballas, too, who takes over from Len Goodman, and it’ll be fab-u-lous to see Craig, Bruno and Darcey back at the judges’ desk. Plus, there’ll be a moving tribute to Sir Bruce Forsyth, one last dance from reigning champs Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton, and songs from Shania Twain and Rita Ora. Don’t miss! Rating: *****

Last Night of the Proms, from 7.15, BBC2 (ex Scot) and BBC1

Tonight it’s the Last Night of the Proms as well as Proms in the Park, hosted this year by Michael Ball. Bryn Terfel, Elaine Paige, Ray Davies and Gilbert O’Sullivan are part of the stellar line-up in Hyde Park, but tonight is all about tradition as the Royal Albert Hall resounds to the rousing Rule, Britannia!, Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance.
