I'd Do Anything: Jodie is Nancy!

Saturday 31st May

Jodie Prenger has been crowned the winner of BBC1's I'd Do Anything - and as such has won the role of Nancy in the new West End production of Oliver!

The 28-year-old, from Blackpool, beat competition from Irish teenager Jessie Buckley to win the public vote.

As such, she wins a contract to play the role in the West End from December until the middle of 2009.

Earlier in the evening teenager Samantha Barks had finished third in the final.

Jodie - who along with Jessie had escaped the sing-off for the entire series - had been the bookies favourite to win, despite fierce competition from Jessie who had been one of the favourites since the start of the live finals.

She was shocked when her name was announced - but regained her composure enough to thank the public for voting for her.

"Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart," she said, "I'm just so chuffed."

Andrew Lloyd Webber said the winner was "always going to be the people's choice," while Cameron Mackintosh - who earlier in the week had suggested that Jodie was "too big" to play Nancy - said he "was thrilled" for her.

It is the second reality TV show that she has won, after she lost eight and a half stone and was crowned winner of the weight loss show The Biggest Loser in 2006.

The final saw Jodie, Jessie and Samantha each perform solo as well as each singing a duet with one of the three boys chosen to play Oliver on last week's show.

Prior to the announcement of the results, Jessie and Jodie both performed As Long As He Needs Me from Oliver as well as reprising their favourite song from the series.
