Strictly Come Dancing

The shoes have been polished and the remaining sequins have been sewn as 14 new celebrities waltz onto the dancefloor for the fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

As usual, Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly will be on presenting duties, while ruthless judges Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Phillips and Bruno Tonioli return to offer their verdict on the performances.

Last year, more than 12 million people tuned in to watch cricketer Mark Ramprakash and his professional dance partner Karen Hardy win the coveted title of Strictly Come Dancing champions, joining previous winners cricketer Darren Gough, actress Jill Halfpenny and newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.

Among the famous faces hoping to follow in their fancy footsteps this time round are former EastEnders star Letitia Dean, Coronation Street villain Brian Capron and actress Kelly Brook, who's partnered with SCD's resident Romeo Brendan Cole.

And with sportsmen such as Mark and Darren, Matt Dawson and Colin Jackson having fared so well in the competition throughout its run, the pressure will be on footballing legend John Barnes and former international rugby star Kenny Logan to come up with the goods this year.

Speaking of Kenny, he and his sports presenter wife Gabby Logan will be going head to head as the first married couple ever to take part in the competition. Sounds like a major try to us!

Every Saturday night, the couples will show off their skills in Latin and ballroom dancing in a bid to impress the judges – and the viewers at home, who'll be voting to make sure their favourite stays in the competition.

Commenting on the new series, Bruce said: "It's hard to believe this is the fifth series and the show goes from strength to strength. So many people I meet can’t wait for it to return... I can't help but get excited myself."

Those who can't wait for the live Saturday night show can join Claudia Winkleman every night for Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on BBC2, where you'll see exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes gossip.
