Lee follows wife Denise into Legally Blonde

Lee Mead is to follow his wife Denise Van Outen into the cast of Legally Blonde The Musical.

The West End star - who rose to fame in BBC One talent hunt Any Dream Will Do - will play Emmett Forrest in the Olivier Award-winning hit.

But the pair will not be together on stage as Denise, who currently plays beautician Paulette, is due to leave the show next month.

Until recently, Lee was performing in Wicked, playing Fiyero for several months, and famously landed the title role in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat after a TV search.

He will replace Alex Gaumond, who has starred as Emmett since the show opened, at the Savoy Theatre in December 2009.

At the weekend it landed an Olivier Award for best new musical, while Sheridan Smith - who has subsequently been replaced by Susan McFadden - was named best actress in a musical. Jill Halfpenny took the prize for best supporting performance for a musical.
