David Walliams now 'used' to BGT buzzer

David Walliams has said he has overcome his reluctance to buzz the auditionees on Britain's Got Talent - and is now happy to bring their acts to an end where necessary.

The comedian - who is a newcomer to the panel this year along with Alesha Dixon - had previously said he had been concerned about making hopefuls feel like rejects after his own experiences of auditioning.

But speaking to Chris Evans on his Radio 2 show, Walliams admitted that he now thought it was a good move, to save the wannabes from further embarrassment.

"I thought the hardest thing would be pressing the buzzer because, you know, I'm an actor. I've been in an audition and I know what it's like to get rejected," he said.

"It's tough, but actually sometimes people are rubbish and you want them to stop what they're doing. And also sometimes you want to save their embarrassment because the audience are shouting 'off'.

"So you want to press the buzzer too, so they don't humiliate themselves any more."

David added that he had previously been told to steer clear of poking fun at fellow judge Simon Cowell - but that the mogul had taken some of his jibes in good faith.

"Simon's laughing, the audience are laughing and it's all good. I didn't need to worry because he's got a great sense of humour and he's like the king and I'm the court jester," he said.
