I'm a Celebrity: Brian plods off the series

Former Met police boss Brian Paddick became the sixth contestant to fall out of favour with the public and exit I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Ironically, Brian had spent the night in a cage with rodent bedmates and a basic ration so he could win a full English breakfast for his campmates - a breakfast he never got to taste as Ant and Dec gave him his marching orders.

He was in the bottom two with veteran actor George Takei, but Brian polled fewer votes and his 17 days in the bush came to an end.

Earlier, Simon Webbe undertook the Bushtucker Trial, retrieving stars from air pockets in a jungle swimming pool. Despite being terrified of water, the ex-boyband star captured the maximum six stars.

Nicola McLean revealed that camp pest David Van Day had a grand plan to win the show and tried to rope her into destabilising I'm a Celebrity favourite Joe Swash by flirting with David.

The former enemies' love-in didn't last long, however. And it had the unhappy effect of really annoying Joe. He complained of being 'taken advantage of', while Simon said it was a dangerous game, playing with people's emotions.

"I'd rather of not know this was all going on," said Joe. Perhaps Nicola should have kept her bush trap shut...

The show's highlight was Wimbledown legend Martina Navratilova making some startling revelations about her life as a lesbian. She told the world, via a conversation with Nicola, that she felt 'no butterflies with a guy' despite losing her virginity to a boy at 17.

At 18, she met a girl - and there was no turning back.

"I can be physical with a guy, but not emotional, like with a girl," said Martina. She also revealed that there was a new woman in her life, who was 'sweet... She's beautiful, she's drop-dead."

But arguably more startling was the revelation that Martina's Czechoslavakian father read up on lesbian literature before she came out and gave her advice on her sexuality. Now that's liberated!
