Over The Rainbow Jodie Prenger: 'Just go for it Dorothys!'
May 20, 2010

As the winning Nancy on I'd Do Anything, what advice would you give the Dorothy finalists on Over The Rainbow?
"It’s going to be a nerve-wracking experience, but I’d say just go for it and enjoy it. It's amazing to be part of a search to find a new West End star and it will be the biggest rollercoaster ride of their entire lives – once they get off they’ll want to go back on again!"
What qualities should the winning Dorothy have?
"My advice to them would be that the public will always see you for what you are, so just work as hard as you can and always be yourself. The public aren't stupid – they can see if someone’s pretending to be something else."
Do you remember how you felt on the night of the I'd Do Anything final?
"I was so nervous, but my family had been there throughout the competition, which kept me going 100 per cent. When Graham Norton announced I was Nancy, I think I went into shock. I'd dreamed of that moment, but I didn’t think it would actually happen."
What kind of Dorothy do you hope the public chooses as the winner?
"For me, it's the Dorothy that walks onto the stage, sings Somewhere Over The Rainbow and just pulls at your heartstrings. I want someone to win who's enjoyed the experience and who's just willing to work hard to be the best Dorothy they can be."
What sort of career can the winning Dorothy look forward to?
"Over The Rainbow is the biggest showcase of their talent and lots of the girls from I’d Do Anything have gone on to do brilliant things. I've worked with some of the most amazing people and have presented live TV, which has been a great experience. It's all hard work, but so much fun."
Do you hope that your role as the Toto judge on Over The Rainbow will lead to more TV work?
"Everything I've done since winning I’d Do Anything has been phenomenal. I’ve wanted to star in the West End for so long, so I still want to try new things and stretch myself. I'm probably a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none, but I'm having a fabulous time!"
*The final of Over The Rainbow can be seen on Saturday May 22 at 7pm on BBC1
