Soapstar Superstar axed
25/05/2007 - 10:34

Despite strong viewing figures, ITV is giving Soapstar Superstar 'a rest'.
The last series of X Factor-style show earned big audiences, peaking at seven million for the final in January, according to The Sun.
But that wasn't enough for ITV bosses, perhaps smarting over the recent failure of Grease Is The Word.
An ITV spokesman said: "We have decided to rest Soapstar Superstar. But it may well come back one day."
Coronation Street actor Anthony Cotton won the 2007 series, while another Corrie actor, Richard Fleeshman, won the first series.
An ITV insider was reported as saying the network knows the decision won't be popular with the public, but they had a range of other Saturday night entertainment shows to take its place.
