Whittle will perform on Saturday's 'Strictly'

Actor Ricky Whittle will perform on Saturday's Strictly Come Dancing, after being arrested on suspicion of assault earlier this week.

A BBC spokesman told the BBC News website that the programme would "continue as normal" with the actor - who is one of the favourites to win the series - included in the line-up.

The Hollyoaks star was held in police custody in Liverpool in the early hours of Friday morning, and questioned over the incident, in which he allegedly ran over a photographer in his car.

He was eventually released on bail on Friday afternoon pending further enquiries.

The 29-year-old had taken a break from his Strictly training to attend a party at Liverpool's Parr Street studios with some of his colleagues from the soap.

It is thought the incident occurred after he left the venue at around 1.30am and headed for his car. The alleged victim was later treated for minor injuries.

In other Strictly news, Ali Bastian has confirmed that she will perform on Saturday night's show, despite sustaining a foot injury which left her on crutches.

The Bill actress had been unable to walk all week after falling during rehearsals and badly bruising her foot.

However she has now said her aim is "to dance on Saturday night and give it my best shot".

She will be performing a Charleston with partner Brian Fortuna.
