Apprentice's Kate to host new Five show

Apprentice runner-up Kate Walsh is teaming up with Ian Wright and Melinda Messenger for a new show on Five.

The nightly magazine show, Live From Studio Five, takes a witty look at the day's news and is thought to be the channel's answer to the BBC1's popular One Show, co-hosted by Apprentice You're Fired presenter Adrian Chiles.

The hour-long show is being produced by Sky News for Five and launches in September.

Richard Woolfe, channel controller at Five, said: "This is news – but not as you know it. It's a chatty, forthright spirited magazine. Ian, Melinda and Kate have warmth and attitude – they are a high energy, up front, breath of fresh air."

Kate, who recently fronted a women's fashion slot on GMTV, added: "Becoming part of the presenting team on the new show is an exhilarating and thrilling challenge - and I love a challenge!

"I can't wait to get stuck into daily live TV, and the show promises to be a totally new way of reviewing the day's news."

Kate, who is engaged to fellow Apprentice star Philip Taylor, quit her job as a licencing development manager for Starbucks to appear on The Apprentice earlier this year.

Despite being a strong candidate, Kate lost out in the final to restaurateur Yasmina Siadatan.
