X Factor hopefuls to re-audition

X Factor contestants who auditioned in Scotland may have to sing again for the judges, following changes to the show's format.

Simon Cowell recently announced that hopefuls would now be required to sing in front of a live audience - a format which has proved popular on Simon's other ITV1 show Britain's Got Talent.

But as the first round of auditions have already taken place in Glasgow without an audience, it's thought that the show will have to return to Scotland to re-shoot, according to BBC Online.

An X Factor spokeswoman said: "We are still fine tuning our plans, but we aim to be back up in Scotland at the end of the month.

"We are working out how we are going to do it, but it does look like everyone who auditioned will come and audition again."

Speculation has already begun on internet forums about what the re-shoot could mean for people who have already performed for the judges.

One said: "Do they have to audition again and possibly have their place taken away from them? Will the funny acts who were bought along to be made a fool of, be happy to do it a second time?"

The spokeswoman added that the new format was all part of making the programme 'bigger and better than ever'.

Also under the new format, the X Factor results show will move to Sunday nights, to go head-to-head with BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing.

Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole will all return as judges for the new series, which will be broadcast later in the year.
