Shane Richie warns: 'Move over Mitchells' (VIDEO)

Shane Richie has warned that the Moons could soon be taking over Walford, when West End star David Essex joins EastEnders as Alfie's uncle.

Talking to whatsontv.co.uk on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards, where EastEnders won Best Soap, Shane said he was 'probably more excited than anybody' to learn that the 70s heartthrob would be joining the soap.

And he had a stark warning for Walford's Mitchell clan, as he joked: "Mitchells move over, the Moons are in!"

David plays Eddie, who turns up in Albert Square with sons Anthony and Tyler this summer.

Shane said: "He's embraced EastEnders, he's jumped in and he's become a real Moon. I think the audience will love him."
